The Readiness Estimate and Deployability Index A Self-assessment Tool for Emergency Center RNs in Preparation for Disaster Care

Readiness to perform emergency healthcare in an austere environment such as a disaster depends on the preparation of the individual professional nurses and team. A research program, made up of studies and products centered on individual readiness to perform nursing care in austere environments, is described in this article. Brief, easy-to-complete instruments to assess nurses’ readiness along 6 dimensions are described with respect to their conceptual background and reliability and validity testing.
